Helpspace is dedicated to helping the public find high quality, professional therapists working online.

online counsellor verification

For this reason, Helpspace has a thorough screening process. Each professional must go through this approval process in order to list their services for online therapy on helpspace.org.uk. This means that Helpspace has confirmed that, at the time their profile was made public, each counsellor/psychotherapist listed on our platform submitted evidence of:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Appropriate qualifications (certificates and documentation)
  • Professional insurance

How do I know my therapist is qualified and registered?

Professional registration bodies are member organisations for therapists and counsellors, most of which are approved by the Professional Standards Authority.

These professional bodies accredit training degrees, so that you know the training your therapist has undergone is of a good standard. They also maintain a list of therapists who are registered.

Members are audited to ensure the therapist is working to professional standards. You will see the therapist's membership displayed on their Helpspace profile along with their qualifications.

How does Helpspace confirm that therapists are qualified and registered professionals?

Helpspace receives evidence of each therapist's qualifications (certificates and documentation), registration with their professional body, and professional insurance before hosting a therapist's profile on Helpspace for the first time. This is our policy. The majority of professional bodies are accredited by the Professional Strandards Authority.

This can give you additional assurance that any therapist you choose on Helpspace has a professional background and works to a professional standard.

Please note that while Helpspace does check these details before a profile is initially hosted on helpspace.org.uk, we do not review these details on an ongoing basis to make sure they are up-to-date. Changes to these details are therefore not actively monitored. While every effort is made to ensure these details are correct, therapists on Helpspace are self-employed and some details may have changed since activating their profile.

While this is our policy for allowing practitioners onto the Helpspace platform, it is your responsibility to confirm that these details are still accurate before your first session, as we do not actively monitor any changes.

Always make sure to confirm that a therapist's professional body memberships and professional insurance are up-to-date before you start working with them. You should also ask for evidence of appropriate qualifications before your first session.

We strongly recommend that you take the necessary steps to verify this information as Helpspace Ltd. will not be held responsible for any false information.
